Question about Binoculars?

Can anyone tell me what is the (Smallest) most (Powerful) binoculars for sale? Ive always wanted a pair but i really wouldnt like a big bulky heavy pair of binoculars hanging from my neck. I was thinking more of a pocket sized pair? or something a little bigger? Thanks in advance!

You are falling for the idea that magnification is what it is all about. Yes, you can get some very small binoculars that are 15 or even 20 power. They have a very narrow field of view. Imagine looking at a Ford pickup. Yes, you got great magnification but all you can see of the vehicle is one of the front tires. What you also have to consider is field of view. The big binocular will give you good magnification AND a wide field of view. When you look at the Ford, you see the entire vehicle.

There is also light amplification. The big glasses with their big lenses gather a lot of light. You can use them right into dusk and see pretty well. Those little glasses with their little lenses have to be retired at sundown.

Lastly, the higher the power the more little shakes and movements of your body make it hard to see. Each heart beat makes your view bounce. The big glasses due to their weight are more stable and if you really got the money, you can get gyroscopically stabilized glasses.

If you MUST get some small glasses, do not get more than 8 power. If you find 2-3 pair of that power, get the one that has the widest field of view. Usually that will be the one with the biggest lenses. I would not spend more than $80 for a small pair. Save your real money for a big pair once you realize the small ones are junk.
